Activity

Title:
Measure Volume Of Liquids Using standard Unit

Terminology:
Measured, volume, capacity,  standard units, litre, millilitre.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the lesson, pupils will be
  1. To measure and compare volume of liquids by using standard units correctly.
 Learning   Objective :
Measure and compare volumes of liquid by direct comparison and by using uniform  standard units.
Materials:
Course Ware CD ,Cylinder in litre and millilitre,  Differnce Saize Container

Produce:
1. Teacher show CD content:

Tia, Zul and Gupta are having a picnic, Tia is holding a carton of orange juice. Zul explain that a standard unit is needed to measure the capacities and volumes of any liquid. When a standard unit is used, there will be no misunderstandings. Everyone will use the same unit to measure volume of liquids.

2. Teacher  explain with cd couseware:

cd course

  • a mililitre is a smaller unit of capacity
  • There are 1000 ml in a litre
3. Teacher also explain to :

250ml  milk

1litre tea

  • Two containers with different volume of liquid are compared:
  • 1  carton tea and 250ml milk. The comparison shows that the capacity of the tea containers is 4 times as large as the milk container.

4.      Divide the pupils into 4 group and them work in their cooperative groups. Teacher show the
courseware Cd. Pupils look at each container and decide whether it hold  more than 1 litre of
liquid or less than 1 l of liquid by clicking on the correct phrase.

5. Pupils are divide to 4 group. Appoint one student in the group to be the recorder.
  • Give  each group a set of containers and cylinder in litre and millilitre and a pail of water.
  • Each group fill every container with water
  • They will measure the volume of liquid in each container by pouring the water from the containers into the measuring cylinders.
  • A group member record the result in the table:

 6.      Teacher prepare the qustion:
  • Which container has the largest volume? ( Answer: _________)

  • Which has the smaller volume?  ( Answer: _____________)

  • Which   container suitable   for measuring  the volume  liquid in litre ?

  • Pupils answer the question.

7.   Teacher give the grouping exercise.  Before start the exercise, teacher show the courseware Cd
exercise to make sure children can do exercise very well. Pupils have to decide which is the more
suitable unit, litre or millilitre, for measuring the volumes of  7 juice container, essence bottle,
correction fluid, medicine, bottle, washing liquid, milk bottle. Pupils then drag the picture to their
      correct groups, litre or millilitres.
